ALL THE TIPS FOR YOU TO KNOW THE CHINESE VIEW

Vista Chinesa is a belvedere built between 1902 and 1906 in an oriental style to honor the Chinese, who introduced tea cultivation to Brazil in the 19th century. The viewpoint is strategically located in a clearing 380 meters above sea level, nestled within the Atlantic Forest. The view is nothing short of breathtaking. From this spot, visitors are treated to stunning panoramas of Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, the beaches of Rio de Janeiro’s South Zone, the Dois Irmãos Hills, and the Vidigal Favela—all emerging from the heart of the forest to captivate those who visit. Simply amazing!

It seems that everyone who visits the Chinese View experiences the same sense of wonder. The place is truly amazing! Beyond the breathtaking view, the surrounding forest and the architecture of the belvedere create a special atmosphere at Vista Chinesa. It’s no surprise that this viewpoint has been attracting more and more visitors, both tourists and Cariocas.

How to get there?

Vista Chinesa is located inside Tijuca Forest National Park, with its main access through Rua Pacheco Leão in the Jardim Botânico neighborhood. To reach it, you’ll need to walk almost the entire length of the street. Near the end, you’ll find a sign indicating the start of the road to Vista Chinesa (Estrada Dona Castorina). As soon as you enter this road, you’ll feel the change in climate—the lush forest surrounds the entire path. Right at the entrance, there’s a guardhouse for Tijuca National Park, where you can get information.

A little further along, on your right, you’ll find a small waterfall—a true delight! A short 15-minute trail leads to three more natural pools, with the last one offering a refreshing waterfall shower. Although the climb up Estrada Dona Castorina is quite steep, it’s common to see people walking or cycling up. If you’re up for the challenge, go for it! The full climb to the viewpoint is about 3.7 km. For those coming from Tijuca or the West Zone (Barra da Tijuca), access to Vista Chinesa is possible via Alto da Boa Vista Road or Furnas Road, both of which have signs leading to the viewpoint. Unfortunately, no buses go all the way up.

The closest option is the 508 bus line, which stops at Rua Pacheco Leão, near the entrance to the road. A taxi from Rio’s South Zone to the viewpoint costs around R$60 to R$80, depending on how long you stay.
